Practice Areas

AJW helps clients to advance their energy and environment goals by productively engaging the public policy process. AJW’s principals have a thorough understanding of how the policy process works. This includes our substantive knowledge in the areas of energy, environment and related new technologies. But it also includes our direct experience in the creation of law, development of regulations, formulation of regulatory and market strategy by companies, and stake holder interaction. AJW’s principals gained this experience during their more than 30 years combined work in the federal and state government, private, and NGO sectors.

Today we continue to build our strategic perspective on important energy and environment issues and use that knowledge to help clients design and implement effective advocacy campaigns using a some combination of the following services:

  • Research
  • Issue Monitoring
  • Analysis
  • Planning
  • Writing
  • Lobbying
  • Communication
  • Coalition Building

Some illustrative examples of our work include:

  • Strategic communication plans for new, complex and potentially controversial environmental technologies, targeting policy makers and the environmental community. In addition to formulating such plans, AJW also helps to implement them including developing and disseminating communication materials.
  • Legislative strategy development and implementation, including direct lobbying and communication on behalf of several clients with a variety of energy, environment, budget, appropriations, and other decision-makers in Washington.
  • Designing, building and working diverse coalitions to shape policy on important energy and environmental issues.
  • Technology strategy involving research of the potential role of an emerging technology class, assessment of policy options for promoting the class, development of a lengthy technical report and shorter communication pieces as well as communicating results to stakeholders in industry, the community and government.
  • Market analysis involving quantitative and qualified estimates of market demand for new technologies driven by regulation and energy and environment policy writ large.
