Our Work
Industrial applications for biotechnology are becoming increasingly common and familiar. Enzymes are being developed to complement or replace classical production techniques such as using chlorine bleach or to enable plant carbohydrates to replace petroleum hydrocarbons in chemical, plastic and fuel production. A report by a management consulting firm McKinsey and Company predicted that by the year 2010, about 20 percent, or $280 billion of the chemical market, would be affected by biotechnology. One common feature of industrial biotechnologies, is that they are often more environmentally-friendly than the traditional production process they replace.
The Biotechnology Industry Organization wanted to produce a report that described the explosive growth in industrial biotechnology applications, and the potential for significant pollution prevention that would result from wider use of these processes. AJW, Inc. was commissioned to produce the analysis used in the report and to assist with the development of the report.
